My New Book

Well, St. David's Day and St. Patrick's Day have come and gone since my last post. Gnostic Writings on the Soul: Annotated & Explained is now available through Amazon.

I am currently working on a book on Judas and the Gospel of Judas, which I plan to publish through Bardic Press. The first part of the book looks at the figure of Judas. What can we know about him historically? Was he considered to have betrayed Jesus in the earliest sources, and was he even a historical person? I also look at alternative views of Judas down the centuries, and particulalry interpretations that are sympathetic to Judas. The second part of the book looks at the Gospel of Judas as a Gnostic text, with a new translation and commentary. The book is a couple of months from completion, and publication through Bardic Press will be very fast. I am relying on National Geographic publishing the critical edition of the Coptic text in the next couple of months, otherwise publication will be delayed. I will soon be able to announce another forthcoming project.

What did you think of "Reading Judas" by Pagels and King? I found King's translation of Judas to be much clearer and easier to understand than the one published by National Geographic. I'm really looking forward to your translation and commentary. I hope you're able to make the text "come alive" like you did the Gospel of Thomas.

Thanks for the nice comments on my Gospel of Thomas book. It's nearly out of print and I haven't decided yet whether to republish it in another format (as a pocket book again, or perhaps with extra material) or whether to put it up on the Internet. I'm still waiting for my copy of Reading Judas to arrive, so I can't comment on it yet.

Thanks again,

Andrew
