Archive Links Not Working

For some reason the monthly archive links on this blog page aren't working. I've tried republishing the blog, editing the posts and changing the blog template to no avail. If you are interested in older blog entries, click on the oldest post in the list and that page which provide working links to the earlier posts.

James Robinson on the Gospel of Judas

I've been looking into the Gospel of Judas a bit more. James Robinson wrote a useful article on it here, "From the Nag Hammadi Codices to the Gospels of Mary and Judas":-

Papyrus Egerton 2

I'm currently working on he Lost Sayings of Jesus: Annotated and Explained for Skylight Paths. the book is divided up into Christian, Jewish, Gnostic and Islamic material, plus a section for modern fictions and forgeries. Today I've been translating and commenting on the Papyrus Egerton 2 fragments. I had to make recourse to the Internet because the half a dozen volumes that I possess that contain translations of Papyrus Egerton tell me that it was first published in 1935, but fail to mention when it was discovered. So I'm grateful for Wieland Willker's site, which tells me "The Papyrus Egerton 2 was purchased from a dealer in Egypt in Summer 1934 by the British Museum."

Hermetic Texts in the NHL

Steve Habgood emailed me and pointed out a mistake in the introduction to The Gospel of Philip: Annotated and Explained. I mention that not all of the texts in the Nag Hammadi codices are Gnostic, and as an example of an Hermetic text I give Poimandres. Steve points out that Poimandres doesn't actually appear in the Nag Hammadi codices. He's quite right. I was thinking of Asclepius, which appears in Codex VI.

Out this Month

The Gospel of Philip: Annotated and Explained is coming out this month. It's already available through Amazon and the other online sellers and will be in the stores later this month. Anyone interested in Gnostic texts ought to have a copy (though I say so myself.) It's the best book on the Gospel of Philip for the general reader, and also helpful for anyone interested in more scholarly study of Philip.
